Well you can certainly take decent pictures with a typical 18-55 kit lens, they're not amazing but not worthless. I'd say the majority of people who buy a dslr probably never move beyond he kit lens. Then you have the photo nerds like us who buy lots of glass.

oh no doubt you can, i took these on the kit lens
im just sayin that if he is already complaining that he cant take good pics with the kit lens, but doesn't want to spend money on good glass. a dslr is not for him.
