I already have a pair of 1GB DDR2-533 from my old computer as well as a ~350GB HDD so I'm going to be building two server boxes

Does a pretty good job of going over FreeNAS- Watch the whole thing, there's some pretty kick ass options he goes over (like Bit Torrent)

Overall I'm hoping that the atom will be enough to serve up iTunes, uPnP/DLNA, FTP, windows server and do print spooling. My understanding is for my limited use it should work flawlessly, well short of having to chop in the print spooler.

I'm also making one into an untangle box to scan for viruses and allow me network access outside my home with OpenVPN, though I'm not sure that 3.5" HDD will fit with both of those network cards.

:edit:
just to hit on the power daemon thing for a minute, from what I understand if you run it your processor speed will be scaled just like a laptop running on battery. If freeNAS is only using 2% CPU then it'll stay on but be dropped to near-nil speeds to lower the power. This I'm not so sure about yet though :dunno:
