I decided to get myself some kind of commuter-type bicycle for running errands around local stuff and such. Checked out new bikes but the stuff for $500 or under didn't impress too much so went to the used store.
I ended up with a 1991 or 1992 ish Trek 7000 mountain bike. Aluminum frame and some of the parts were upgraded over the years. The bars that were on it were kind of narrow so they kindly changed them out for a wider set and slapped a pair of bar ends on for me. Also replaced the chain and 2 of the front chain rings to remedy a skipping problem. Rear gears, cassette & derailleur were replaced w/ Shimano XT in the not too distant past. Has a pretty new Bontrager saddle on it. I slapped on a couple lights and saddle bag.
Front shifter replaced w/ Shimano XT:
original rear Shimano DX shifter:
saddle:
crank w/ fresh chain rings:
new-ish XT rear derailleur:
I need to get rid of these knobby tires and put on some Panaracer T-serv road tires but otherwise it's ready to go. Rides real nice. I can't keep up with the road bikes on the trails but it's good for putzing around town and will be better without the knobbies. Woo.
