Six foot pole and open face reel combo, six lb test line (strip the stock line off), a variety of spinnerbait and have at it.
Get a tackle box to store extra lures, scale/tape combo, toenail clippers and a pair of needle nose pliers. The rest will add as you put more time in.

Also grab a copy of the state fish and hunt regs and read it so you know the rules, ignorance can be expensive.
