Just pulling straws right now.
I don't recall the show ever going into Obito's story and learning where Kakashi really got his sharingan. Any idea where in the manga that happens?
I forgot where... But I know I read it. Might have been in the anime as a slight flashback, I'm not sure. I haven't watched the anime in a long ass time.
Anyway here's a quick recap on how Kakashi got his Sharingan.
He was on a mission with a medical ninja and Uchiha Obito while under the guidance of the 4th Hokage. Obito at this point didn't know how to use the Sharingan yet. The team gets ambushed and Obito gets crushed under a rock. Kakashi says the only way they can get out of this bind is if Obito can somehow unlock his Sharigan, but he can't. Obito admits that he can't do it, but since they have a medical ninja on hand, Kakashi can have his one good eye, as the other one has already been crushed. So she performs a quick surgery and Kakashi gets Obito's left eye, and because he is just a crazy son of a bee, he can activate the Sharingan.
Note that only Tobi's right eye can be seen through his mask, but I can't remember if he had two eyes when he met up with Sasuke.
