People are generally part of a religion because A) their parents are, B) they are socially pressured to. I know there are other reasons, but I think those two cover probably 80% of the church/mosque/temple/whatever-going population. As humans developed, there is very good sociological and biological reason to do what your parents tell you to do. Otherwise kids would get eaten by lions and whatnot
I don't have anything against someone who is religous or spiritual, BUT people who follow the bible to the word (i.e. Genesis) and raise their children that way are deliberately handicapping themselves and their children. There are even religious astrophysicists out there... but they believe evolution, the big bang and the laws of physics as the method through which God works. I'm fine with that... even the brightest scientist can't satisfactorily explain to me how/why the universe started.
