I completely agree with Dave. You aren't your bosses' property; use this situation to your advantage.
That being said, realize that LA will be a major re-adjustment for you.
No 100 acre backyards, no $800 / mo rent either.
As an example, I pay nearly twice that much for about 1000 sqft and secured parking in a decent part of town.
