I have a 1988 Honda Civic DX 5-speed.
Today while I was driving, i was having a slight
problem putting the car in gear. First gear was a bit
hard to engage. After it only happening a few times,
it then happened to the point that I had to push in the
clutch pedal (which feels normal-same amount of tension
as usual) and 'slam' the car into first. I used a lot of muscle
to get the car into first. Upon revving to 3000 rpm's I then
had to 'slam' the car into second. I came to a stop sign,
and had to then put the car into neutral. Again, the car would
not engage into first gear. It took about 5 attempts of me
really 'slamming' the car into first for it to work.
Fortunately, I was near my house and got the car into the apt.
complex and into my parking spot.
I turned the car off, and wanted to see if I could put the car into gear.
Of course it was no problem. I then turned the car on, and while it was running, tried to put it in reverse. Nothing. It was grinding, so
I did not try that again. I tried to put it into first, but again nothing.
The clutch was replaced in 2002-2003.
Does anyone know what the hell is going on?
I don't really have access to a garage (to do this myself) so was wondering
what you guys thought it could be? Is this an expensive job?
I trust my mechanic, but I still would want to know what he should
charge.
