And yes no organisation is above corruption. I also agree that the UN is not respected by the it's members. And some of the permanent members should not be there. But ultimatly the UN is usefull. If the USA did not think it was usefull they would have left the league. But the USA also that benefits from the UN just like all the other countries. It has used it veto power more then any other permanent member to save it's alies.
at this point china and russia are the only ones who see that nothing needs to be done. how long do you think they should let the north continue to war monger and threaten and mess with nukes before someone steps in and says we warned you now you're gonna listen? you think the people living there will do anything? they dont even know whats going on in their own country let alone the world
and what pressure? its all great and good to make sanctions but they dont get enforced ... there's no teeth to the UN. Iran has yet to listen to ONE sanction or decree ... Norht Korea is the same, Iraq was the same way. Yugoslavia ... the soviet union ... in every instance they laugh at the UN.
Theres only three countries with real power in the UN ... the US, Russia and china ... aside from that everyone else is a joke. i'm not saying the US hasnt used the UN to its advantage but as of late russia and china have been teaming up to see that things go their way even in the face of severe civilian hardship ... darfur and north korea are two major cases, iran could be added as russia and china are both severely against anything major since they both have billions of dollars worth of trade. the UN is so corrupt it all runs around money on all sides now.
and it's bullshit that everyone is quick to jump on the US and say oh you only did this or are doing that cuz of oil ... what the hell you think china and russia do ... and the worst thing is they are willing to overlook huge loss of innocent life and dictatorships simply because they want their money. You and i both know that the US wouldnt turn its back on a situation like darfur because they suddenly had a money offer, there would be a riot within the US if we did that ... doesnt happen in china or russia though oh thats right thats cuz in china if you speak out you go away forever and in russia you suddenly are a "victim" of street crime
