yep on my car we had to wire a long wire to the driver side of the car as a reliable signal to turn on the relay since the passenger side wiring sucked.
the pass side wiring would read fine when u'd measure resistance/continuity when at rest, but throw some voltage at it, and it would read under 9V. wtf
