When I was working for Barnes & Noble, we shipped magazines and books to Concorran, Pelican Bay and San Quentin all the time without issue.

Go to your local bookstore and talk with the manager. They'll know what the CDC will and won't allow and whether they'll go to the trouble.

It's in their interest to help you, particularly if you buy the books from them.
