It's just a mere sensor that detects the improper rotation of the crank. If you are good with your car then you should be able to notice how it feels when you start it and how it normally runs. People did this normally back in the days before the times when computers were added to notify the driver.
I did the ECU wire trick to disable it. Although I could have gone the route of changing out the sensor itself. I feel that it is just a lot of time spent to change a component that isn't critical to the functionality of the car.
