You and a couple other people here sound like you were read it as a bed time story as a kid. I know the parts I read made me want to memorize it, should I ever become a soldier.
I have read it once and meditated on the things I read so they would sink in, plus it has been rewritten thousands of times with different application in modern environment. Lots of business and self help books use the same principals as well.
