This proposition is a thinly veiled as an attempt from the religious conservatives to impose their religious beliefs on what marriage is or isn't. It's sickening, and it's incredibly sad that these groups of people have nothing going for them in their personal lives that they have to impose their beliefs into the lives of others.

Look into the Knights of Columbus, James Dobson and his organization Focus on the Family. All were key contributors to the Yes on 8 campaign and the introduction of the proposition itself.
IMO, these groups constitute a fanatical "Christian" minority faction using straw man arguments to justify discrimination on the grounds of a trumped up culture war.
And I used quotes because the fundamental inequity they endorsed with Prop 8 is hardly Christian in principle. Unless you believe the Gospel ends at Leviticus.
