what the hell is 800 grit gonna do as far as prep.. your being way to gentle, and there is no reason for primer if theres no body work that needs done to the hood unless he's got some kinda drastic color change goin on and wants to conserve paint!
for the OP if you really don't know what your doing, take it to a body shop. If you wanna learn, go research from some reputable source rather than listen to people that don't know what they are talking about.
There would be way more details needed from you for anyone to give you proper instruction on here anyways.
