No, the Basement and On Topic have very different roles on this board.
I can speak with authority on this simply because I've been around to watch On Topic evolve as a forum.
The Basement has been the place for being irreverent and off-topic. People crack jokes, stray off the original topic and are free (within reason) to just have fun.
On Topic was created to preserve the mood of The Basement. On Topic is a forum where people drop the comedy act and debate with a more serious mindset.
I invite you to go back and read some of the threads that are posted in On Topic. You'll see how the conversations differ and why On Topic was created.
Do not filter us. I think i speak for a lot of us when i say. Keep us able to speak. make sure the titles are correct, so that only the interested interact.
YaY personal choice!
 I honestly don't understand why you think our action is a form of censorship. On Topic is an
open forum. All people need to do is go there and post.
We are only acting as traffic cops in order to preserve the fun atmosphere of the Basement. That work requires us to make a judgment call based on the content of the thread.
It's also a problem that can be eliminated if people who want to debate the issues post in On Topic from the start.
You may not agree with the rationale behind this decision, but I hope this gives some insight into why the On Topic forum was created and how it is intended to be used.
