i got this bent little metal bit that i ended up bolting under the a arm bolt and slipping under the rubber sleeve in the middle:



you cant see the mount in this picture, but i think you get an idea of what i mean.

if you do cut the tube make sure to sand the lips down a bit so you dont cut the dickens out of your hand next time you take it apart.

*edit* actually you can kinda see it if you look close, its on the front side of the strut tower.
