If they eat it regularly in some other country then I'd be willing to give it a shot. It's good to learn how to eat things like that so if you ever have to survive on it for some reaosn, you'll know what to look for and what to expect.
I'd have to think that there also comes a sort of immunity against a lot of things in some of these international foods. Not saying that something like this will be harmful- but that fact that some people have eaten certain foods for their entire lives isn't exactly great reasoning to say that it's fit for all to consume.
