There are some parts that degrade from use, but the real degradation is that we can only run the same experiment so many times before it stops making more value (I've seen some people confused about this). The value of what we extract is less and less as more and more data is accumulated.

After a while, we'll gain all we can from it, and then it will be an oversized university toy instead of a theoretical tool.
