Hmm.. I live here because it's A whale's vagina. Dot.
No seriously.. This is as close to Hawaii as you can get on the mainland. I was born and raised by the ocean and I'll always live close to the ocean. I have tons of friends and family here. The legal community has a huge footprint in SD so I'll always have work. My neighbors on all sides are cool as shit. We get 300 days of sunshine a year and it's usually accompanied by a cool ocean breeze. Good food. Lots to do. Great opportunities for my kid(s) (hopefully)..
Cons:
Cost of living is rough, but with anyplace, you have to work hard and smart to afford the lifestyle.
Traffic is getting bad.. Was worse but with gas prices the way they are, it's tons better.
Avg. Lot size is less than 1/4 acre. I'm lucky to have scored a house with a legitimate front/back and side yards. We still toy with the idea of picking up a second place or just moving to a brand new house that's fully upgraded already, it's just not financially prudent to do so at the moment. The carrying costs+HOA+melloroos is just too much to deal with.
I think in a few years we'll seriously consider it, but it'll still be somewhere in San Diego.
