It's hard to get the distributor in wrong, it's keyed so it will only go in one way. Not sure if the timing could be that far out, just check and make sure the bolts that hold it in are in the center of the slots. That will give you a good base to start with. I would check and make sure you have all your plug wires in the right place, sounds like that may be your problem since you removed it all.
