Versailles is highly overrated...and very very boring.
I mean, it's huuuuuge, and so are the gardens, but damn, taking a tour of it will enduce a coma.
I agree, I went there and was disappointed. I rather enjoyed going to the old churches like Notre Dame than going to Versailles.
I also like Sacre Coeur (Sacred Heart).
