DD-WRT V23 was around for a LONG time. Like since 2006 (OMG!)
v24 is only about 2 months old and has lots of improvements. So if you go around looking for reviews, there are very few that actually have v24 reviewed. So most of them say Tomato is better. And before V24 came out, it was. In many ways. But V24 has learned from that, had a lot of testing and is very nice and stable.
Tomato is very good too. Best to check out each of their sites. They are both very similar now really.
