Never mind about this. I seemed to find the problem. The interior light fuse was blown, which in turn was also tied in with the OBD-II port. After it was replaced, I was able to scan the computer.
im pretty sure you will never forget that...after fixing your own problem...it stays with you for the rest of your life...now thats knowlege!
