most providers allow you to check your own voice mail by calling your own number and hitting # or * when you get to your voice mail. Then you just enter your password (if you have one) and listen away. Text messages I don't know how to get to without taking your SIM card out and putting it into another phone (unless you have verizon...no SIM card ftl)
