No books, only Religious material, no phones (I only had 3 in 9 weeks on shitty payphones), no tv, no internet, no news papers. Plus, having to share barracks with 30-50 guys, with 6 showers for you all gets rough. The physicality part of Basic was the fun part.

no religious material? thats funny my little brother finished marine basics in feb and he got somehow involved in a religious something or another and went to church regularly for a sense of normal... it was one of the few liberties he was given. his basics were 13 weeks. he said something about how 1/3 of the guys had to all shit at the same time, 1/3 shaved, 1/3 showered. 2 minutes per task. im not really sure what the physical requirements of his basics were.... but he is a tough bastard, if he couldnt take me before he left.... he definitely could now.
