Yeah, Basic isn't really all that tough, like LT said, it's a mind game. For the most part, it's mostly about being away from your home for the period of time and going from having everything at your disposal to only have letters in the mail as your contact to the outside world. No books, only Religious material, no phones (I only had 3 in 9 weeks on shitty payphones), no tv, no internet, no news papers. Plus, having to share barracks with 30-50 guys, with 6 showers for you all gets rough. The physicality part of Basic was the fun part.
And no problem for the service. I found out today that if my Unit deploys in 2009 (which starts in October, the fiscal year anyway), I'll be attached with the 3rd ID...which is the 3rd Infantry Division...and if anybody knows anything about Army Divisions...they know that the 3rd ID is a bad ass unit to be attached to, so I'm stoked about that.
