There's a setting in the dash that can be changed to force communications to be played through your tv/headphones. As for a microphone, any 2.5mm cell phone headset will work.
My setup:
Headphones
AMP
I use an earbud type headset, but most of the time I just push the voice into the headphones directly using the mic to talk through. Earbuds either hurt my ears after an hour, or fall out.
