He's a decent defender and a big body...something they don't have, which is why they have so much trouble with the big centers of the West. The main reasons they got him are that he is an outstanding passer, and he can make free throws...something they struggle on with Biedrins. At the end of close games, he can be in defending the big man, and make his FT's. His career % isn't that great, but he can make them in the clutch. He can also make 15-18ft jumpshots, which will bring the opposing big man out of the lane....more room for Baron and Monta.

Oh, and he's averaged 9.8reb/game over his career, 6.7 last year with the Pistons....not bad.
