Do a compression check on all cylinders. If you do not have at least 100 lbs per cyl., or all 4 cylinders are not within 10-20 lbs of each other, then you probably have a couple of bent valves. If you turned the engine over with the timming belt not installed, the pistons most probably hit the valves and bent them slightly. (It doesn't require much to lose the seal completely) These Are "0" tolerance engines and cannot take any misalignment between cam and crank.
