$100k/year in most major california cities aint shit. you're not broke. you're just not making "a lot".
have u ever lived on your own for a long period of time samson?? $100k/year salary comes out to just barely over $8k/month. thats $4k every two weeks. get that shit taxed as a single and in that income bracket, you'll get somewhere in the $2600/paycheck range. thats NET INCOME. so basically in one month, you bring home in your bank account about $5200 give or take a couple hundred depending on your other deductions. still sounds like a lot of money to you? then you havent made that much and lived by yourself in a major city yet. rent alone for an average 1 bedroom apartment will cost you about $1300/month. more if youre in a new and/or developing metropolitan place like downtown. u think eating food is cheap? grocery shoppin and/or eating out will still come out to around $800/month. thats one paycheck gone out the door immediately. car payments? car insurance? electricty/water/gas/trash bills? phone? cable? car gas? savings acct? laundry/dry cleaning? bathroom/kitchen supplies? how about furnishing the place? even if it means buying a cheap couch and coffee table. EVERYTHING, and i mean EVERYFUCKINGTHING costs something once you move out and live on your own.
dont get me wrong, with $5k/month NET, a person can still live more or less "comfortably" here in cali, but nowhere near are they close to being even considered rich. you keep stating that you dont mention "family" in your statements. good. cuz if you do plan on having a family and your family income is $100k/year, you better either learn to cut corners and use door mats as rugs, or move out 1-2hrs away from any major cities, or just move the fuck out of california.
