I'm talking about cloning to create more individuals from which to selectively breed in order to produce offspring with specific traits. So for example if you were trying to create a type of corn that had stronger roots to hold up to plowing better, and more sugar in its kernels, you could clone one individual kind of corn with the more-sugar-kernel gene several times, and breed the clones with several different kinds of corn that have sturdy root structures. Or if you're breeding cattle and want them to have thicker coats of hair for northern climates plus higher fat content, you clone one individual with the thick-hair gene and breed the clones with a bunch of other individuals with high fat content.

Genetic engineering is taking DNA and messing around with it. Flipping genes on and off, splicing shit together, making phosphorescent cats that can breath underwater and stuff like that.
