I didn't like swords at first either, but I figured out a few tricks.

1. If you and someone else both hit at the same time and bounce off of each other, quickly hit the melee button. It seems to give a quicker jab than if you were to use the RT button again.

2. If you and some else hit at the same time and bounce off of each other, back off rather than go towards them. The will usually try to hit you and miss. You can easily get them after they miss.
