The Type-R's need power. Plain and simple. They have a very high RMS rating and a rather low sensitivity of 87db. I've heard Type-R's running off of HU power and I've heard them running off of a decent amount of power.
They didn't sound as bad as I had expected running off of HU power, but the detail just wasn't present. The more power, to a point, you feed a good component set the better they sound.
I'm also having trouble finding ANYTHING about that model number. Are you sure it's not a CDA-9885? Thats what the picture looks like.
