Think about it this way: What happens in the engine during cold idling (1200RPM) that doesn't happen during very light driving (<2000RPM)? The answer is nothing. 10 seconds of idling (Each piston has already moved up and down 50 times at 1200RPM!) should be more than enough to get the engine ready.
