The cop gave you a ticket for either your intake, header..or fuel pressure regulator. ...or he was being a dick and gave you a referee ticket for the exhaust.


Technically, exhausts systems do not need to be CARB exempt. They only need to be noise compliant at 92db according to the California Vehicle Code. If he didnt measure your noise level at 50ft with a db reader, you can technically dispute the ticket. As long as your exhaust system is in working order and has no holes or illegal modifications such as eliminating the catylitic converter.


If the ticket is for an intake or header that is CARB exempt, you can also dispute that. Any intake or header on the vehicle should have a CARB sticker if it is legal for street use in plain view. If they are not CARB exempt, you'll need to put your factory parts back on and make an appointment to the state referee station to get it checked and smogged and pay the fees.
