from my experience i have actually found that duct tape doesnt work very well when used in very cold and/or wet climates, the glue doesnt want to bond very well
if it is bonded first and then placed in the cold/wet it holds up fine though

i have fixed many a ski pole with duct tape, but you had to go into the lodge to do so or else it wouldnt stick h:
