What did recently pass and will start in 2010 (I think), is that all NEW firearms sold in CA will have a firing pin that will mark the primer with a unique number. This will ultimately rid CA of all unsolved crimes because every casing found at a scene will have a number tracing back to the owner of the gun. There will absolutely be no problem with people filing off the pin, replacing the pin, or picking up random casings at the shooting range. None at all.
That's what it was.. Just had this same convo with my bud here at work who's got a decent collection. Not too bad then.
