Default workout crew...how do you get cut while still being big

I'm currently about 210lbs 5' 11"
I'v been lifting for a while but it seems that i'm getting thick but stronger, but what I want is to be more cut but not skinny. I want to be big and cut...so the obvious is to run but take more protien before lifting?
