I've never had to update firmware on a router. How long it the router down for? Anything I need to do? Do I need to be on a Windows machine or can I do it from Linux?
First find out if theres an update available for your router. Second, in the router access menu (localhost, 192.168.xx.xx) there should be a simple option to update the firmware. Since the hardware is independent of your machine you wont need to reboot and your OS won't matter. It'll be down for like 5 seconds.
