they should be replaced as often as necessary, I can't really give you a time frame, everyone drives different so they may last you 3 years, but me only 1 1/2. I can't imagine them being too difficult to replace, I watched my buddy do it and it didn't look too terribly hard to do. But of course nothing is hard when you're watchingh:
