Buying HIDs so that you can "look" cool from far away is stupid. There should be a special forum for these kinds of questions. If the purpose of upgrading to HIDs for you is get a little more visibility at night [and you don't want driving lights], then you need check out what kind of results your headlight housing can get from an HID conversion.

Ex: 92-95 Civic OEM headlight lenses are fluted. These are terrible when HIDs are hooked up behind them. An option would be to invest in a set of aftermarket projectors and replacing the projector part of the housing with Audi A4/S4, BMW 3-series, or S2000 projectors.

6000k and above looks stupid. If you do not understand why HIDs appear purple or blue in OEM Audis, BMWs, MBs, and certain Acura/Hondas headlights when seen by other drivers, then stay away from HID. You only look stupid when you drive around with headlights that light up the ground a bright purple or blue thinking that your car "looks" like an Audi or something..
