betta spray if you want a good finish. I used regular masking tape AFTER I rolled it on the floor to greatly reduce the stickyness of it. Blue painters tape would work just as well.

What I discovered that worked well to rough up the chrome is to rub it well with some isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and a scrap piece of cloth. The chome will disolve under a bit of elbow grease and will maintain an absoltly smooth surface.
