I usually ride with a jacket that has built in retro reflective strips. Even with those reflective strips, sometimes I put on a bright neon yellow safety vest that has wide retro-reflective strips on it over my riding jacket.

When I get to my destination, I take off the vest and stow it.

Yeah I look like a dork, but anything that increases my night time visibility is a good thing.
