iv. Rape Shield laws prohibit the sexual history being admissible except for the offender
v. Notification of the public about sex offenders
1. Crime Control Act of 1994 requires them to register
2. A law in 1996 that requires notification be sent when a sex offender moves into a neighborhood
vi. Longer prison terms for sex offenders
vii. All of the above have led to a drop in crimes since 1995

i. In 2002 the U.N. released a report that women in the U.S. have a higher risk than those in Europe
1. The U.S. has a rate of 32 out of 100,000
2. England and Wales has a rate of 16 out of 100,000
3. France and Spain were next at 14 of 100,000
4. Followed by Norway, Finland, The Netherlands and Denmark
5. Canada and Australia were higher at 78 and 81 rapes respectively
ii. Differences in reporting, cause these reports to be subjective at best
iii. Regardless, it suggests a more serious problem here than other nations
iv. Fourteen Latin America countries have laws that exonerate rapists that marry their victims
1. Family pressures and offender pressures give women little choice
v. Feminists feel that this condones rape
