If they are strong, it shouldn't be a problem.

If they aren't, it gives the couple a chance to discuss it instead of avoiding the issue and staying in a loveless marriage another 15 years because it's routine.

My parents stayed married for 10 years longer than they should have because it was easier. They finally wised up, and I think if they had to renew their marriage license after 7 years, they wouldn't have wasted that 10 years in a relationship that was a dead end.
