On a stock clutch, there shouldn't be too much slop when cold. Pedal feel should be firm enough to give good feedback, but not stiff. You probably have air bubbles in the clutch line. Just bleed it and you should be fine. Make sure you're using a dot3-4 fluid. Anything higher will absorb water vapors and go bad quick.
