There are two couplings on the column that should be replaced roughly 30 bucks and 2 hours of your time.
The front suspension should be refreshed:
LCA + Bushings
Tie rods
Struts/ springs and mounts.
And
Rear Trailing Arm Busings
Those will get rid of any wandering issues (not counting tires)
Alignment also plays a HUGE part in the way the car handles. I've driven an e46 M after we lowered it and changed out the LCA's. The alignment was so off it handled like a yugo. ugh.. Toe+camber and caster were completely out of wack.
