I test drove a '97 with 140k miles...it felt like shit I really wanted to buy one too.

Couldve been a fluke. Suspension work is super easy to upgrade, shifter upgrades make the car fun to drive and simple software and intake exhaust upgrades REALLY make the car come to life.
