I would SERIOUSLY consider an E36 M3.. Tons of Bang for the buck.. Easy to work on.. Aftermarket EVERYTHING..

Don't need to mod for power.. just pick up a decent suspension, tires and you're good to go. I always look back to the e36 m3 as the go to car.. cheap enough to buy.. fast enough that you aren't always trying to go faster and if it ever breaks, you'll find diy with full pictures on how to do it.
